Who am I?

Wed Nov 5, 2008, 12:51 PM
Can someone please explain to me why on Earth so many Canadians are wearing clothing sporting Obama and McCain? I have seen a lot of it in the last few weeks and today, the school is flooded with people wearing Obama t-shirts, button, patches etc....

Can someone please tell me that last time you saw a person wearing a "Vote Martin" t-shirt in the states? Hell, do you guys even know when our election was?

I mean, kudos to people who are up on global events but I have not seen any Korean or Russian political propaganda parading around the streets.

My country has no identity. We allow people from around the world to live here and promote multi-culturalism. We can't say Merry Christmas, we have Black and Orange day and there has been a recommendation to have our national anthem sung in Hindi during the opening of the Vancouver 2010 olympics.

This morning, I was upset as I listened to boos from an audience when it was announced that there was a Black president in the United States. I find prejudices to be a silly waste of time. Thinking on it now though, these people may be racists but at least they are racists with the guts to stand up for what they believe in.

When other nations think of Canadians, they think igloos, beavers, beer and "aboot". I have never seen an igloo nor do I know any Canadians that have. The only beavers have ever seen are road kill. They have done studies and predict that people currently considered visible minorities will make up 80% of the population in 2010.

Any Canadian trained professionals go to the states where they can work more competitively and make more money. Ones that remain to try to boost our economy cannot find work because employers are afraid of lawsuits for hiring caucasians and not being "diverse".

I want to be able to tell people that I am a Canadian and feel like it is something to be proud of but I can't. I don't even know what being Canadian means.
